Vivek Mehta, M.D., is a radiation oncologist who joined Swedish in 2002. He is actively involved in designing and developing clinical research studies at the Swedish Cancer Institute and through national research organizations, including the Southwestern Oncology Group. His clinical interests include image guided radiotherapy, balloon catheter-based breast brachytherapy, gamma knife radiosurgery, intensity-modulated radiotherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery and three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy.
Dr. Mehta has been involved in a number of clinical research studies and has been widely published in medical journals and publications. He has written several articles evaluating the use of concurrent chemotherapy and radiation in the management of malignancy, which he also presented at national and international meetings. His research has appeared in peer-reviewed journals as the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology and Physics, the American Journal of Clinical Oncology, Archives of Surgery and the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery.
A graduate of Georgetown University, Dr. Mehta earned his medical degree from the University of Washington and completed his internship at both the Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center and Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon. He completed his residency at Stanford University Medical, where he also served as chief resident in the radiation oncology department. He is board certified in therapeutic radiology.
In 2004 and 2006, Seattle magazine named Dr. Mehta one of the city’s top doctors in the area of radiation oncology. Other accolades include numerous resident/fellow research awards, such as the Malcolm A. Bagshaw Radiation Oncology Resident Award. He is the current scientific program chair for the Washington State Radiation Oncology Society and is also active in the American Society of Therapeutic Radiation Oncologists, the American College of Radiology and the American Association of Indian Physicians, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
In addition to his work at the Swedish Cancer Institute, Dr. Mehta is an assistant clinical professor at the University of Washington School of Medicine.
