Dr. Janessa Laskin is a medical oncologist at the British Columbia Cancer Agency in Vancouver, BC. Her primary clinical and research focus is on lung cancer.
Dr. Laskin received her undergraduate degree at McGill University in Montreal. Following this she returned home to B.C. and completed medical school and residency in internal medicine at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Dr. Laskin stayed on in Vancouver to complete her medical oncology training and is certified as a specialist in both internal medicine and medical oncology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (as required to practice in Canada). After her medical oncology training Dr. Laskin completed a one-year Thoracic Oncology Clinical Research Fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical School in Nashville, TN under the mentorship of Drs. Alan Sandler and David Johnson.
After her fellowship, she returned to Vancouver in 2003 and has been on staff at the BC Cancer Agency and as an Assistant Professor of Medicine for our affiliated UBC Department of Medicine. Dr. Laskin’s practice is focused on lung cnacer, but she also sees and treats people with cancers of the head and neck. Her research is primarily devoted to clinical trials, both within a number of cooperative groups as well as some investigator initiated studies involving both clinical and translational elements.
