Today we had our first webinar on Molecular Markers for NSCLC, by our own Dr. Nate Pennell. I thought it went well, with some time for questions at the end, and a pretty good mechanism for reaching people from multiple time zones, all viewing the same slide presentation and hearing the audio together. While the slides all looked good from my screen, I understand that some people had trouble seeing the slides properly, perhaps related to some screen resolution issues that Dr. Pennell was working on.
I’d be very interested to hear impressions from people who attended. Was log-in and the opportunity to ask questions fairly straightforward? Also notable was the fact that our attendance was only in the high teens despite having 50 people registered. I know a few people had things come up (several kind enough to give us a heads up so that others could take their place), but for any others who didn’t make it in, were there technical issues?
Please let us know any thoughts you have, since I believe we’re likely to use this platform much more in coming months and years, but we want to make it as easy as possible.

I also thought it went well. The slides were very readable on my display, a 17″ LCD monitor at 1280×1024. The audio was exceptionally clear using my Skype connection to the toll-free number. There were really no problems at all logging in. It took me a few seconds to figure out the chat function — either I wasn’t paying attention when you explained the procedure, or your words didn’t quite match what I was seeing on the screen. Anyway, it worked fine with just one false start. Dr. Pennell’s presentation was excellent and easy to follow. Sending the questions to a moderator (you in this case) rather than directly to the presenter (Dr. Pennell) worked out very well, and I suggest that all webinars be handled in this manner. Ready for more of these!

Question:
Regrettably, I missed the Webnar last night, Jan 20. Is there any way to see a recording of it any other evening in the near future?

It surely went well. Dr. Pennell planned and timed his speech very well. On technical side, I did not encounter any problems. The only thing I’d like to bring up is that Dimdim seems also featured the meeting with audio functions, though it did not really work well, had some delays and noise. So I just turned it off and go with the toll free number. Thanks Ned for mentioning Skype, I will try that next time.
I’ve also completed the survey. As said there, I would expect future webinars to be more interactive. And maybe a more detailed outline of topics featured in the upcoming event will help us prepare our questions beforehand.
Again, thank you Dr. Pennell and Dr. West for the time and efforts.
On Dimdim I heard Dr. West’s voice so I hung up on the toll free number only to find out that Dr. Pennell’s voice did not come through Dimdim and had to call on the toll free number again. Other than that no technical difficulties, enjoyed the presentation very much. Will the slides be posted?
Sorry Dr West. I had signed up but ended up at Children’s Hospital with little grandbaby. He will be fine, but a long night and I did not even think to try and let you know that I would not make it. Next time, if something comes up I will be sure and let you know.
Dr. West:
I found the presentation very valuable. Log-in was easy/straightforward. I didn’t try to ask any questions, so cannot comment on that area.
Dr. Pennell’s presentation was clear and concise, with valuable information. His slides were very good. I was able to see them pretty well, and enlarged the viewing area as needed. Took the audio through the toll free number, via the speaker feature on my cell phone and heard everything clearly. I might try Skype next presentation, per Ned’s post. The time allotted was just right.
One suggestion: It would be nice to begin such presentations with photos of the presenters — to place faces with names, much as you do here at the site.
Have also completed the follow-up survey.
Many thanks to you and Dr. Pennell. I hope this becomes a regular feature of GRACE, funding permitting.

We’ll be posting the podcast, with audio and synchronized slides, as well as a transcript, in the next couple of weeks.
Thanks for the thought on the photo of the speaker — we’d thought of that in the last few weeks but didn’t remember to get it done in the mix of everything. Good tip.
And Myrtle, people had new grandchildren were officially excused. Congratulations!
Plenty of more of these to come.
