Next week we’re going to try the new format of webinar, which will really be a rather informal discussion and perhaps an element of presentation with Dr. Pennell and myself for the first 20-30 minutes, followed by our responses to some of the more general and meaty topics arising from questions on the discussion forum over the next week.
The program will start at 8 PM EST/5 PM PST. Registration is free, but limited. Click here to register for 2/9 webinar.
For those of you unable to join for the live program, we’ll be turning this and future webinars into podcasts that you can archive, and we’ll plan to put the transcribed responses to forum questions on the forum threads that generated them.

Will this webinar cover any particular topics?
Dr. West -
I can’t join this one due to another commitment on that date, but I look forward to more of these informal webinars and to the transcriptions from this one. Thanks, as always, to you and to Dr. Pennell.

The webinar will cover a recent relatively high profile article, a meta-analysis that suggests that patients who quit smoking have a markedly better survival than patients who continue to smoke. That’ll be part of the time. Another topic we’ll cover is recent work suggesting that survival benefit of post-operative chemo may have longer-term adverse effects that erode the benefits we see in the first few years. That’s based on a question asked in the forum.
This program won’t be a formal presentation, but rather a looser discussion between Dr. Pennell and myself, with some data presented on screen. We’re also going to plan to offer some in-depth responses to more general, thought-provoking management questions that come into the Q&A forum between now and the program, sort of a “mailbag” Q&A response time.
What are the computer requirements to join the webinar?
Details are available on the website of the conference application we’re using, called Dimdim (www.dimdim.com); they’re pretty liberal/minimal, I believe. One important factor is that they don’t require people to download a program and install it before trying to participate in the webinar. Many/most other webinar applications are pretty cumbersome in requiring you to download a new application, then restart your computer before you can participate.
