Dr. Govindan on Lung Cancer: Past, Present, and Future Directions

My friend and colleague, Dr. Ramiswamy Govindan, is one of the national leaders in lung cancer, and he was kind enough to participate in our NSCLC Patient Education Forum.  There, he spoke in some general terms about what patients might expect from chemo/radiation for locally advanced lung cancer (which could include limited SCLC as well as stage III NSCLC), but he also used the occasion to talk about general guidelines about where we’ve come from and where we’re going with cancer treatments.  He also covered his impressions on diet, supplements, managing toxicities, and other practical aspects of receiving cancer treatment.

Here is the link to the audio and video versions of the podcast, as well as the figures and transcript.

I hope you find it interesting and helpful.  We’ll be posting the last few podcasts of presentations from the NSCLC Patient Education in the next few weeks, on the topic of advanced NSCLC.

While this did not present really new material, it was a nice overview. I notice that you are trying to condense the videos into a small. I forget the reason. It would be nice if there was an extra 30 seconds in the production, for pauses in places where the subject changes.

The main reason to keep the presentations brief is because we’re uploading most to YouTube if they’re under 10 minutes, which is a limitation from YouTube. For this particular presentation, Dr. Govindan was also presenting toward the later side of a program that was running well behind, and he was trying to cram a lot in the time he had, so we was speaking particularly quickly.

But your point is well taken, and it’s not too difficult to edit the programs in which the blazing speed of some talks can be hard to follow because of the lack of any pauses.

I definitely appreciate your comments.
