I can’t answer your question, but I think your dates are a little off since we haven’t reached June 2012 yet. You’re showing stage 1B, have you been upstaged due to the adrenal to stage 4?
Take care, Judy

Stage IIIA adeno, dx 7/2010. SRS then chemo carbo/alimta 4x. NED as of 10/2011. Local recurrence, surgery to remove LRL 8/29/13. Chemo carbo/alimta x3.

Dr. Weiss

kim,

I’d like to offer you info, but it’s very unclear to me what treatment you’ve received and the rationale for it. Do you mean that you had solitary recurrence in the adrenal and have been treated with a combination of adrenalectomy (surgery to remove adrenal met) and chemo?

Dr West

Here’s a post that is probably very relevant for you:

http://cancergrace.org/lung/2008/04/18/outcomes-of-resecting-solitary-adrenal-mets-the-precocious-metastasis-revisited/

The idea is that this may be a “precocious metastasis”. Solitary metastases to an adrenal gland or to the brain have been known to sometimes be associated with very long survival — in the range of 3-5 years or longer and allowing us to consider thinking of them as cures — in something in the range of 20-25% of patients. If anything, the fact that the metastasis emerged later and not concurrent with the initial diagnosis is arguably more favorable. So while we would never want to over-promise anything, there is a precedent for thinking that such cases can be treated with curative intent and a pretty significant minority of patients can do very, very well.

Good luck.
