- To get to your own Forum Profile: Click on the green Forum Profile text link at the top-right of most forum pages:

Update: You can now also use the grey “Profile” nav menu button at the top of the site to access your complete Profile Info, Bio & Forum Signature!

- or click on your own avatar or linked username anywhere in the forums:

- To edit Profile Info, Bio & Forum Signature: Click on (Edit Bio & Forum Signature) next to your username at the top-left of the page:

- On the next edit page, enter your signature into the large field that says “Forum Signature,” then click on the Update Profile button below:

Now, go to one of your posts and verify that your signature is displayed as expected. There are some additional instruction on this page, and more will be forthcoming to help guide you.

Let me know if you have any questions about these tips.

Cheers,

-Mark

In my case I don’t see any “edit signature” where you described.

Thank you, catdander! I guess it works now.

Mark, it seems that the green profile page is different from the avatar profile. This is how I see it.

The green “Profile” tab takes you to your WordPress profile where you can add a “bio” that shows on the profile pages but does not show up on posts. It also provides a place to add an avatar, picture.

The user name/avatar link takes you to your “forum profile” where you can add a “signature” that shows up on the bottom of each of your posts.
1. It’s very useful for others who are educating themselves.
2. It’s also very important to provide context for doctors who comment on threads.

You are correct, the WordPress Dashboard Profile, which you get to by clicking the grey Profile button on the main nav, is different than the Forum Profile, which you get to using the tutorial above. My other tutorial explains how to edit the Bio and Avatar.

Oh my gosh, I’m sorry I’ve thought this whole time that when you talk about the little green profile button you were talking about the grey button. I’m so bull headed sometimes I can’t see what’s right in front of me.

Hehe, that’s okay – I’m partially color-blind and so had to take a double-triple look at the button (even though I created it) to make sure, and even then, when I posted I was wondering if maybe it was somewhat green. I almost got the color meter out. ;)

Hi WebMaster Mark- I appreciate all the detailed directions to “edit signature”, but truly, I have yet to find this option. Not by clicking on forum profile (green) or profile (grey). They both offer me the same options:

Edit My Profile
Log Out

If there is nothing to be done, I will continue to copy/paste bio with every post, but in the event there is a little glitch you can un-glitch at your end, I would be grateful! I am completely aware that the glitch might be me, by the way, haha. I have sincerely given my best effort at finding the signature option following your instructions and tinkering about my profile. Thanks. ~ Megan

and your avatar? will it take you to a place to “edit my signature”? Last ditch chance from one who know little about all this.

oh, thanks CD- I forgot to mention my futile attempt at avatar clicking. No Bueno. But, I do appreciate your input. :)

Megan,

The “Howdy, heart spy” links that you’re citing are part of the WordPress admin bar, and not part of the instructions for editing your signature.

Tell me, when you are logged in and click on your avatar or username link inside the forums (like from this thread) – NOT the avatar up in the top-right WordPress admin bar, what page do you land on? (please copy the URL if you can)

Cheers!

Hi Mark:
Thanks for your reply. Here is the url after following your instructions:

http://cancergrace.org/users/heartspy

The information is the same no matter where I click. Here a click, there a click, everywhere a click, click.
Unless, I am not seeing what I am supposed to be seeing, even with my glasses on.
Teach me, master, please and thank you.

double trouble

Clicking on your name under your avatar (picture) is the best way to get to the correct screen. I would add that you have to scroll down the page to find the signature box. I think some people don’t see it right away and think it’s not there. Scroll down the page. It’s there. Also, if you edit anything (other than your signature) your signature might disappear. Oh, and always save your changes… At the bottom it says save signature.
Debra

I see the page has been changed some. The confusing bio box is gone. That seems like it will help people figure it out. My comments above were based on the old page where the bio box was at the top, then you had to scroll down the page to get to the signature box.

The updated page looks much easier. Thanks Mark.

heartspy,

You are on the correct page:

http://cancergrace.org/users/heartspy

From that page, you should see your avatar and a green link for “Edit Forum Signature”:

If you click on that link, you should land on your edit signature page.

Let me know how that works out for you.

DT, the bio box is still there. The only change should be that the user avatar is now shown on this page. :)

sorry, Mark. I do not see what you show. I see what I posted earlier. Perhaps, I do need to exit out my IE-9 Browser and use another like FireFox or Google Chrome. Also I have an HP touchscreen desktop that has caused me more grief than I had ever anticipated. Clearly, it is a my end problem, but I assure you- I don’t see what you displayed. This is what appears when clicking on my avatar or my name just below it:

Howdy, heartspy

If I cannot manipulate with different browser, I will continue to copy/paste as needed. But I do appreciate all the inpur and good direction. Sincerely- Megan

Mark, I beg to differ. No bio box. Maybe it’s a browser issue.
Debra

I uploaded a JPEG that I did of the page but deleted it, because I realized it displayed more personal information than I want to make public, but I double checked. There is no longer a bio box on the edit signature page. Just a signature box and an avatar.

DT, you’re not seeing something like this on the edit Signature page?:

It could be a browser thing. What browser and version are you using?

Thanks.
