Hello our very very patient GRACE community!

The GRACE site has been down for longer than expected while we performed our upgrade. We truly apologize, we know how important this is to you, and to us as well. GRACE is such a robust site with so much information that we found that this was no easy task.

As you visit the new GRACE – we ask you be aware of some things: *We are still debugging and encourage you to report broken images, broken links, and other bugs. Please report any of these in the Errors/Bugs/Support Forum found in the right hand sidebar of the forums. *The forums have a new format, and a fresh start. (note that currently we don’t have the fun things for text installed – we will get this up and running as soon as we can). We will begin addressing questions as soon as they start pouring in! *The old forums are archived and searchable but note that they are closed for further comments. They can be found through the link in the right sidebar under Discuss & Learn – Archived Forums. *The SEARCH WORKS!! Yay! *We are working on the avatars, and also on a few other new options that aren’t launched yet. Keep your eye out for little additions as we go forward – like Easter eggs!

PLEASE NOTE: In this upgrade, we were able to transfer much of the user (that’s you) data to the new site. You should be able to login with your current login information and password. You will notice that we have added some security features, so you will be asked to verify a ‘captcha’ form when you log in. If there is any problem with your login information, please utilize the ‘lost password’ function to reset your account. If you still experience issues, please contact us at info@cancergrace.org, and we will get back to you as quick as we can.

There are so many (and will be so many more) new functionalities within GRACE, and we will be introducing them through the “Welcome to GRACE” link, also in the sidebar of the new site. We hope you are as excited as we are, and we welcome your feedback. We thank you again for your patience!

Regards – The (very tired) GRACE Team

Hmmm. . .I’m having a bit of a hard time finding my way around. I’m sure it will just take some time for me to get used to everything here. . .but. . .how do we go about seeing all the latest posts? Do we actually have to click into each separate foum category or is there a location where we can see the latest posts (like we had on the home page of the old site)?

Laya

P.S. Denise: I absolutely LOVE your new avatar. Great picture of you and Melissa!

It will take a little getting used to, we realize this! Sorry about that. The home page has feeds from all the blogs (the individual topics are separate ‘blogs’ now) which is actually great as we grow. (Someone who wants to really only see Breast Cancer information won’t have to wade through other stuff to see what they are interested in).

Scroll down the home page to see the post feeds…

As the forums populate it will get clearer what the new posts there are. it is hard with the shell of the forums and no content. I am still learning a bit also, having been under the hood for the past weeks. As we figure things out I hope to get some tutorials written.

And thanks for the LOVE. I know I should have put something up way before now – just can never decide what’s appropriate, what to say, how not to make stupid jokes. :) so I write and then erase. write and erase. finally give up.

and here is another tip – if you click on your name under your Avatar it will take you to your page, and you can see the list of forums you have posted in. you can also then click the ‘edit’ beside your avatar/name in your profile and drill further into your own info. Here you can add your signature (the bottom one is the one that will show on your posts), etc.

We have a little trimming and styling to do still, but the basics are there.

Oh boy, I wish I was born in the 1990s instead of 1965…I tried to go modify my profile and can’t find my signature anymore, nor a box where I could write a new one…like Laya, I just can’t figure where I can find news/posts of GRACE members like I used to. Denise, when you say ‘if you click on your name under your Avatar’ what do you mean by clicking on our name? Where is our avatar?

Sorry for being so computer illiterate…I hope I’ll get better at this in coming weeks as I already miss hearing from my GRACE friends,

Myriam

Hi all! Sorry for the confusion. Bear with us while we keep working on this. I know it will take some getting used to. This new format is new to us also so we are also learning as we go.

Laya – thanks for the question about PM’s, some of this stuff I believe is just a click to turn on from behind the scenes and we just haven’t found it yet. so hang tight.

Myriam – you are doing great! this is very new. And all of your questions are making me step through this stuff so I can explain it, so that is good.

So when in your profile (after clicking on your name under your avatar/picture (or the space where there should or will be one), at the top over the avatar it says Profile: fortmyr (Edit). Click on Edit.

You are now in a page where you can edit your Profile, keep scrolling down.
Name
Contact Info
About the User
Biographical info (this block does not show as your signature)
Signature – (this block is where you add your signature – like the info I wrote about myself)
and very bottom – Account
Username
Email
Password

For instance, Cosmo72, I see you have added your information to your Profile, but if you put that info in the bottom of the two boxes, it will show as a signature in your posts.

I will keep trying to help so keep giving me your questions! I may need to eat dinner and sleep tonight though… it has been awhile…

Your Profile is also where you can view your ‘subscribed to’ and ‘add this topic to your favorites’. At the top of this topic (so scroll to the beginning where I started this discussion), and in the green bar it says:
Author Posts Subscribe Add this topic to your favorites

if you roll over “Subscribe” and “Add this topic to your favorites”, you will notice that they are clickable. If you click on either of these, they change to “Unsubscribe” and “This topic is one of your favorites”

Now click on your name under your Avatar/Picture/GreySquare again, and you will see your listing of Subscribed Forum Topics and Favorite Forum Topics has populated. When you Create a Forum Topic that one will populate also.

hopefully my ramblings are helpful! If you are still having trouble, please let me know.

OK Kids. . .In case this is confusing for people (because it’s taken me a good 1/2 hour to figure this out) – – if you click on the “Profile” button above, you can’t add a signature line (none exists). You have to go at it by clicking your own name after you’ve replied to a post, and then clicking edit, and then going from there. . .This may be one of those things that will need to get fixed.

Hi Myriam,

Please try this direct link to your signature edit page and let us know if it works. Your blog permissions seem to be in order, so if the link doesn’t work, we’ll have to dig a bit deeper to see what’s going on.

http://cancergrace.org/users/fortmyr/edit

If you can reach the page, then you should be able to use the large, bottom-most “Signature” field to enter your details. If it just doesn’t seem to work, you can post what you want here and I’ll be happy to enter it for you.

We’ll be enhancing this area and making this process smoother soon. :)

Thanks and cheers!

I just wanted to say “don’t panic”…it’s just the first few hours, and we’ll all figure it out.

We will have more functionality added back… Mark, our lead tech guru, had a lot of these things working well, but then when the entire system resets, sometimes all of the lights don’t come back on.

It’s worth reminding people that this area is for “GRACE General News/Info”, and that this is a fine place for these discussions, but there is a separate lung cancer section here:

http://cancergrace.org/lung/forum/lung-cancer/

That’s where questions about lung cancer should be directed, so I think that over time, a large amount of the questions you’ll have, and the discussions people will want to follow, will be there.

I have tried following the above directions for adding signature, but when I go to Edit Profile there is nothing below biographical information – no signature box, account, etc. I do get a message at the top that says

Broken Link Checker installation failed. Try deactivating and then reactivating the plugin.

Installation log follows :

I have no clue what a Broken Link Checker is or how to deactivate – can anyone clue me in?

Hi Diane,

Don’t worry about the broken link checker, that’s just a tool we’re using on the backside to tighten up the site. :)

Instead of going to the WordPress Dashboard Profile, you need to click on your name here in the forums, then click on the Edit button that’s next to the top of the next window – it should say Profile: “DianeW (Edit)” – Just click on that Edit link and it should take you to a page that has most of the same fields as your dashboard profile, but you’ll find an extra large Signature field at the bottom that you can use for your forum sig.

Let us know if that doesn’t work.

Cheers!

Mark makes a great point — going to profile through the dashboard (accessed by clicking the Profile button on the navigation bar, next to the donate button) takes you to the WordPress Dashboard – it’s like going in through the garage. Better to go in through the your name link under your Avatar/Picture in the forums.

Is there still a ‘show all unread since last visit’ button somewhere? I am struggling to find questions/answers which was so easy before…….
