Let me see if I can clear this up a bit…

The biographical info found in your WordPress Dashboard Profile (and also listed on your Forum Profile – it’s the same data), is meant for your biography, which is generally much longer than a signature, and tells the story of your life. This bio data can only be edited in the WP (WordPress) Dashboard, and its use is optional. Your bio is currently only shown publicly on your forum profile.

Your Forum Signature, which is only shown publicly in the new forums as your signature (under any of your topics/replies), is also optional, and can only be edited using the (Edit Signature) link on the version of your Profile in the forums here, which is where your Profile bio shows up publicly (other users can’t get into your dashboard). A signature is generally much shorter than a bio, and only meant to be a brief, often heavily abbreviated synopses of you or your latest news/condition, etc.

If you find this redundant and you want the same information to be displayed both as your bio and your signature, then you can simply copy your bio, and paste it into your signature on the Edit Signature page (then submit the form to save it).

Profile Bio & Forum Signature Tips

To get to your own public profile: Click on the Profile link at the top-right of most forum pages, or click on your own avatar or linked username in the new forums.

To view another user’s profile: Click on someone else’s avatar or linked username in the new forums.

To edit your own profile bio, click on Edit My Profile inside the “Howdy, Your Name” WordPress menu bar at the top-right of your browser window (when logged in), or click on the grey Profile nav menu button above (next to the orange Donate button, when logged in). This WordPress dashboard profile edit page is also where you set your display name, contact info and avatar.

To edit your own forum signature, go to your public profile (see the first tip above) in the forums, then click on (Edit Signature) next to your username at the top-left of the page (next to “Profile: Your Name”. On the edit page, enter your signature into the large field that says “Enter/Edit Forum Signature,” then click on the Save Signature button below. There are some additional instruction on this page, and more will be forthcoming to help guide you.

Let me know if you have any questions about these tips.

Cheers,

-Mark

Hi I just posted to Breast Cancer but it does not come up in the side links to recent forum topics?

Why is there so little time to respond to posts? I wanted to send my condolences to Englishgirl on her mother’s passing, but the last post was Feb 18 and it says it is closed?

Thanks.

@cosmo72,

I’m seeing your recent forum topic in the sidebar in the Breast Cancer section. Remember, until we implement a site-wide recent topics feature, the sidebars only show content for the section that you’re in at any given time.

If you’re still not seeing it, let me know.

Cheers,

-Mark

@reginac,

Sorry about the board closure. I’m looking into the feasibility of moving the posts to the new areas, but we had to close the old one so it wouldn’t run away from us. There’s a note in that forum about the closure and move.

In the meantime, feel free to create a new topic if you wish to express your condolences in the User Community forum.

Cheers and thanks for your patience as we refine the forums,

-Mark
