My wife experienced 2 episodes of vision disturbance in the last 2 months. First one was loss of peripheral vision ( resulted in narrow tunnel vision) that lasted a few minutes, and the second one was loss of upper half of vision field for a few minutes. MRI shows several brain mets with no lepto. While I read here that double vision is a known symptom of leptomeningeal Carcinomatosis, I wonder if partial vision could be too? Appreciate any opinion. Thank you very much in advance.

Hi NJ,

LMC can cause a range of neurological problems, and though I’m sure it could cause the symptoms you describe, so could brain mets. I would be more concerned about LMC if she were ecperiencing a range of seemingly unrelated neurological symptoms such as focal weakness, balance issues, etc. That was the combination that my wife Liz had, which led to the suspicion and eventual diagnosis of LMC.

I sincerely hope that is not what is happening here.

The treating oncologist was puzzled with this phenomenon as he was of the opinion that the locations of the brain mets did not likely link to vision. He referred us to see an eye specialist who, after a battery of tests, concluded there was no problem locally with the eyes. I wonder if this could be an embolus that causes transient blockage of certain blood vessel to the nerves that control the vision, that could be the warning sign of something more serious like stroke or seizure? Any input is very much appreciated.
