How to Combat Financial Toxicity During Your Cancer Treatment - what do YOU think? Finance and Insurance dbrock

Hi Grace Readers,  I want to share a newly published post written by one of our board members, Nancy Sladicka.  It covers most of the most important basic tips and tricks needed to become your own advocate in cancer care.

Maybe the most important reason to have this info is because medical oncologists, even those who specialize, can not keep up with fast moving changes in every facet of the care and treatment of their patients.

You Have Been Diagnosed - What Next? can help you become the advocate todays healthcare user should become.

As always, don't hesitate to ask questions and share experiences here with us.  Your experiences and questions hold much more insight to readers than you may know.

Take care all!

Janine

Hello our very very patient GRACE community!

The GRACE site has been down for longer than expected while we performed our upgrade. We truly apologize, we know how important this is to you, and to us as well. GRACE is such a robust site with so much information that we found that this was no easy task.

As you visit the new GRACE - we ask you be aware of some things: *We are still debugging and encourage you to report broken images, broken links, and other bugs. Please report any of these in the Errors/Bugs/Support Forum found in the right hand sidebar of the forums. *The forums have a new format, and a fresh start. (note that currently we don't have the fun things for text installed - we will get this up and running as soon as we can). We will begin addressing questions as soon as they start pouring in! *The old forums are archived and searchable but note that they are closed for further comments. They can be found through the link in the right sidebar under Discuss & Learn - Archived Forums. *The SEARCH WORKS!! Yay! *We are working on the avatars, and also on a few other new options that aren't launched yet. Keep your eye out for little additions as we go forward - like Easter eggs!

PLEASE NOTE: In this upgrade, we were able to transfer much of the user (that’s you) data to the new site. You should be able to login with your current login information and password. You will notice that we have added some security features, so you will be asked to verify a 'captcha' form when you log in. If there is any problem with your login information, please utilize the ‘lost password’ function to reset your account. If you still experience issues, please contact us at info@cancergrace.org, and we will get back to you as quick as we can.

There are so many (and will be so many more) new functionalities within GRACE, and we will be introducing them through the “Welcome to GRACE” link, also in the sidebar of the new site. We hope you are as excited as we are, and we welcome your feedback. We thank you again for your patience!

Regards – The (very tired) GRACE Team

Introducing ... (drum roll) .. the NEW GRACE (2012) - 1241445 Full Archive dbrock

I haven't been able to figure out how to bring up posts I haven't read. I tend to read most of the posts because I want to follw the people in our community and how they are doing, plus a lot of times a single question might turn a post into another topic that is important. Is that feature still available? --mikem

Hi, tech team,

If each post is long or the member has signature, the profile picture and screen name move down to the middle. I personally like them stay at the top so they can be easily seen and also make the whole look neat (I think).

Thank you,
Jing

I can see that the new GRACE is a major undertaking involving a lot of work, but just wanted to offer some suggestions from a user's point of view.
- In general, I think the pages feel a bit cluttered and hard to navigate. In particular, I am not sure it is worth distinguishing, on the right-hand-side of the page, between "new forum topics" and "new forum replies", as these are essentially the same thing. To have both takes up space and risks a lot of repetition. If this doubling up were scrapped, there'd be more room for recent comments from different forums.
- Some "Comments" (on faculty posts) from the old, frozen site are appearing - are these just as "fillers"? It is quite misleading as it suggests these threads or comments are still active (for eg I've just come across a comment from Regina on a 2009 post of Dr West's).
- I know it is a web convention to be fixated on time (posted ten minutes ago, an hour ago and so on), but I wonder if this "freshness" is overemphasised in the new version. On GRACE, which already operates in a number of different time zones, the question of when something was posted is far less important than who posted it, what it's about and whether you've already read it. It would be great to have a function, as on the old site, that labelled posts as unread or new. To me this is far more important than how long ago they were posted. I was probably in bed at the time :)
Many thanks, and I hope feedback is acceptable in the context of everyone's hard work, which is much appreciated.
