Hello everyone,
Great to have this site to share and support others.

I have a question regarding the reliability of Pet scans with CT, CT with contrast, and CT with contrast and barium swallow . How reliable are these tests in picking up spinal disk metastases? and is there another diagnostic technique, if a newly discovered disc met is likely, but could not be confirmed 100% with the above tests?

By the way, whatever met ( 1.4cm ) there might be, has not caused any symptoms so far.
Have been on Tarceva 150mg for 2 1/2 months with shrinkage of all sites ( Primary Lung, lymph nodes, Brain mets ( 9 ). Last Ct with contrast and barium swallow showed new lesion in disc T10 .

Thanks so much for any answers

Hi kempten,

Welcome to GRACE. Although only a biopsy can definitively determine if a lesion is a metastasis, an MRI images bone lesions best. It may be helpful in determining the risk of fracture and whether to radiate the lesion to prevent that.

After the primary cancer diagnosis take place, spinal metastases are also diagnosed. Thorough metastatic workup is very important for spinal metastasis patient that determine the nature and the extent of this disease. Along with that certain diagnostic test like chest radiography, physical examination, CT of the entire spine, MRI and bone scanning is also very crucial.
