ceritinib side effects A - 1269428

Hi,
I'm wondering about Ceritinib side effects - do these side effects continue as long as you are taking the tablets? I take Ceritinib at night and do not eat again until breakfast. I began Ceritinib 1.5 weeks ago and each night about 3 hrs after taking the tablet I feel sick and vomit. Will this side effect continue or should it ease off once my body becomes used to this drug? Thank you. Marie

Hi Marie,

I hope ceritinib works very well for a loong time. I'm sorry you've been having GI problems though. Below is a link to a discussion on ceritinib including about half way through the video a conversation about lowering doses to control nausea and vomiting. I hope you're able to get this under control soon.

So, our beloved love affair with Xalkori is drawing to a close after 4 years! Hubby now has lung and liver progression just shy of his five year mark! While we are sad to see the disease come back, we are hopeful that his transition to ceritinib will be a relatively smooth one with just as much if not more success. Just looking for tips or hints on making the switch easy for him. Any thoughts on best time of day to take it, what side effects folks are seeing the most and just some hopeful words! Thanks!

After 4 years of taking crizotinib with no evidence of disease, my husband now has a new lung mass (2.3 cm x 1.7 cm) and 5 to 6 liver lesions (largest at 19 mm). Also a few lymph nodes noted. Biopsy was done Friday evening for retesting of ALK. Ceritinib was ordered but obviously will need to be authorized, etc. My question is the transition from one drug to the next. Since the drugs are so similar is an extended washout period needed? We will certainly follow our doctor's order, so not seeking medical advice here, just thinking ahead. The fear from diagnosis is back stronger than ever for both of us and if we can at least get a handle on things we can control it helps a little.

Hi jmpchic,

I'm sorry it's time to leave xalkori. We have a video on the subject from a patient forum conference a year ago. Obviously there are many more people who've had experience with drug since then but I think this maybe a good place to start. It includes ideas like lowering dose by as much as half if problems persist, taking at night to sleep through possible nausea side effects and taking food with the dose instead of the package recommendation of a 2 hour fast.
