I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in July 2014, I have had 10 chemo treatments, and several plural effusions. I am not a candidate for radiation to stop the fluid from entering the plural. Is there such a thing as not being able to perform a pleurodesis, where the inject the talc into the plura space. Could it be such a thing as to too much of an opening in the lining to perform this procedure

Hi shiannf,
Hi shiannf,
I'm very sorry for your diagnosis and problems with the pleural effusion. There are reasons not to have a pleurodesis such as if your lungs aren't expanding completely then the talc wouldn't compress the lining to the lung which holds keeps the fluid from building up in the pleural space. Dr. West explains the management of pleural effusions in this post. http://cancergrace.org/lung/2007/03/18/mpe-managment-options/
I hope this helps. Let us know if you have more questions.
