Sister diagnosed at Stage 3B December 2014 and now is Stage IV adenocarcinoma, NSCLC, KRAS mutation, right lung primary w/mets to lymph nodes and multiples to brain: first line Carbo/Alimita, second line Cisplatin/Etoposide, XRT chest 35 treatments, Opdivo, WBR, then CKI brain
Oncologist says Opdivo did not work, lymph nodes progressed, brain lesions progressed, just began Paciltaxol once weekly x 3 weeks then 1 week off until ???? From what I read, this is an older chemo agent. I am wondering why this versus something else?
Thank you,
Jean

Hi Jean,
Hi Jean,
I'm sorry to know your sister has progressed again. With the exception of the newest targeted drugs ie, immunotherapies, ALK inhibitors, and EGFR inhibitors this post is still the standard treatments given to those with stage IV nsclc. Taxal may not be new but it's still a go to drug. http://cancergrace.org/lung/2010/10/04/lung-cancer-faq-2nd-line-nsclc-o…
I wonder if your sister has considered looking for a trial that fits her needs. Her oncologist should be able to put her on the right track for that search.
All best,
Janine

Thank you. Atezolizumab may
Thank you. Atezolizumab may be approved any day now by FDA, expected by October 19 and I am hoping it will be an option. Next PET /MRI brain in October.
