In 488 days, I've had compared two PET/CT scans of 2 nodules from 2 different hospitals. The original report from St. Mary Medical Center A 9 mm with a max SUV of 2.2, and the other was 10mm with no significant hypermetabolic uptake. Both nodules on the recent scan at HUP(3/15/16) were measured as 11x9. (They never seem to use the same slides on the older reports for comparison with new). The new scan has measurements of 12x10 with SUV of 3.3 and 15x12 with SUV of 2.5. The report says I "present for staging" and nodules are suspicious for bronchogenic carcinoma. Moreover, I had a PET done at Jefferson in July 2015, and it was not used for the comparison. The nodules were cited as a 14mm with a MAX SUV of 0.75, with delayed image max SUV 0.94. The other nodule listed as 15 mm with SUV of 1, on delayed image a MAX of SUV 1.04. I want to know whether the nodules are slow growing, what that translates to in human terms, and how accurate the readings usually are of the SUV uptakes reported. Thank you. Helen W.

The 11x9 nodules I mentioned
The 11x9 nodules I mentioned in my post were what HUP took from the slides of St. Mary, not from the Actual report St. Mary gave, but apparently from different slides than those on the report. I don't think I made that clear in my post. Thank you. Helen W.

Hi Helen,
Hi Helen,
It's not at all unusual for SUV readings to vary a bit from one day to another, or even over the course of a few hours, as metabolic activity changes from moment to moment. And since the CT images from one scan to another are not taken at exactly the same angle, the slides will not usually match up by number, it's just a question of matching the images as closely as possible so that measurement comparisons can be made. The SUVs are all pretty low, which would tend to indicate slow growth.

Dear Jim C,
Dear Jim C,
It is always a relief to come back to this site after hours and days of reading on-line large quantities of information that is often full of ifs, ands, buts, paradoxes, and ambiguities. GRACE seems to always bring me back to earth, uncross my eyes, and settle me. Helen W.
