I understand that Tarceva is not taken with food because the side effects become stronger. Why is this not an issue with Crizotinib?

Different drugs just have different characteristics in terms of how they are absorbed. Crizotinib (XALKORI) is just a totally different drug from Tarceva (erlotinib), so there's no reason to think they would share the same characteristics in how they are processed by the body.
