TAXOTERE TREATMENT? - 1249823

My father was diagnosed with Stage IV non-small lung cancer last year. He had ten chemo treatments of Carboplatin and Alimta, the last one being in December. In August of this year, his oncologist began my dad's second round with the same chemo. He completed four treatments, and the CT Scan showed no improvement.

My dad's oncologist wants to start him on Taxotere. I read a little bit about it, and it appears there are many serious side effects. I would like to know your opinion on this drug? Could you please help me with this?

Taxotere (docetaxel) is a very appropriate therapy for advanced NSCLC and is among the few that has a proven survival benefit in previously treated patients with advanced NSCLC. It's true that some people have difficulty tolerating it, but it's a therapy that is effective enough that I recommend it to the vast majority of my patients with advanced NSCLC at some point.

You can read here, in a link about options after patients have progressed on initial chemotherapy for advanced NSCLC, that Taxotere is absolutely on the short list of appealing agents to pursue:

Good luck.
