My father was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in April of last year.
He has been on a chemo break since December 2011 after ten treatments.
In March he began having slurred speech. An MRI revealed a tumor on the left
side of his brain. He had 10 whole brain radiation treatments. Yesterday he had
another MRI and was Informed that there was no shrinkage. Is this common and why
Would it not have helped at all?

Can you please put this question in the section on radiation? There is a forum just for that, and this area is for questions about the website. Go to the header for "Ask a Question About ____" and then scroll down to radiation; if you select that one, you can get to a forum where questions about radiation are fielded.
