I hope it is appropriate to post this here since it's not just about me, but about GRACE as well.

It's so appropriate I was just coming onto the site to start a thread with the same link (thanks for e-mailing it). Thanks for raising awareness about LC, giving GRACE and me a shout out, and for giving everyone here another reason to be hopeful!

You're very welcome, Dr. West. After all that you have done for me, my family, and this community, it is the least we can do in return.

Laya, thank you for your continued support as always!

Sherry that is an amazing article. Thank you so much for the support you give back to the cancer community. Your story is so compelling. I hope you win the lottery on this one.

Thank you. So far I feel as though I have. I am still in awe that I am NED right now. I consider it a blessing beyond belief.

Operations Director, GRACE

So great Sherry! Thank you for posting this!

Operations Director for GRACE. Have worked with cancerGRACE.org since July 2009.  Became involved as a caregiver to my best friend, and quickly came to see that GRACE is filling a need in the area of cancer education.

Great story, Sherry! The author did a great job of getting the medical aspects right (thanks to you, I'm sure!)

Thanks for sharing this with your GRACE family.

Sherry and her family have done a great job with this. Even though Sherry and I are both in the Pittsburgh area, and even though we've been friends through GRACE for a long while, have talked on the phone, and have the same (GRACE-participating) oncologist (Mark Socinski), we've never met. This will change next week, as my whole family will be participating in the We Wish walk. We're looking forward to it and to finally meeting Sherry and her family. I hope others in the Pittsburgh area will join us!--Neil

Neil,

Great to hear from you, Neil! I had just been thinking about you in the last couple of weeks, wondering how you were doing.

(For those who haven't been here a long time, Neil was one of the first two moderators on GRACE, along with our dearly remembered friend Ned (recce101). He and Ned helped Dr. West immensely in the early days as GRACE took shape; we owe a lot to both of them).

OK, Neil...I won't embarrass you further! But credit where it's due, right? :)

Be well.

Thank you all for the support. It mean a lot to me.

My family is laughing at me because Neil coming is like a celebrity in my eyes. No pressure, Neil. :)

Sherry: Your family is in for the biggest letdown of all time! Everyone else: Thanks so much for the kind words and kind thoughts. I've been on crizotinib since March of 2012 (at which time things looked pretty bleak), and we'll keep our fingers crossed. Jim: Thanks so much for the reminder about Ned's impact! Very fond memories of Ned (who once had an office on the same floor of the same building where I work!)--Neil

I remember when Neil, you asked Ned about that building.

What an event! It was a gorgeous day, and Sherry and her family raised lots of money for lung cancer research and education. It was wonderful finally meeting Sherry and her great family (Donnie, Travis and Dominique)! Rumor has it that there might be pictures at a later date.--Neil

Great work, Sherry and family! And it's always great when GRACErs can meet, especially two who have been such mainstays on the site.

Thanks for sharing this with us, Neil.

Neil, I have been worrying about you ever since you wrote about your diaphragm being paralysed. Did the crizotinib in some way sort that out? Very glad to hear that you and Sherry have met up.

cs: Been thinking about you, too. Crizotinib has been good to me so far. As I got better, the diaphragm-related symptoms got better (much to everyone's surprise). Fingers crossed (for you, too)!--Neil

Thank you all for your support. As Neil said, the event was very successful. We raised over $8000!!! We far exceeded our expectations and are so very thankful and humbled by the support our community has shown us.

Now what you are all waiting to hear . . . meeting Neil was AWESOME!! He has a beautiful family and they clearly love him to the moon and back. My daughter was shocked that he was who he was because as she said, "that man looks so healthy!". I think only GRACE members can understand the importance of meeting each other. Neil was the first person to reach out to me when I was first diagnosed and I will be forever grateful for his friendship.

And here's the pictures!!

Sherry: Right back at you! You've been there for me in the tougher times, too, and the turnout of your friends and family (and the participation of all the sponsors) is testimony to what people think about you. Plus you photoshopped the picture to make me look tall! And I appreciate that the walking part of the festivities (as opposed to the carefully measured and highly competitive run) was perhaps a little shorter than 5K. Let's hope for an even bigger turnout next year!--Neil
