Good News - Scan Results - 1265882

It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted but I wanted to share the good news that my sister-in-law's latest scan is still NED. She was diagnosed Stage IV NSCLC in 12/08. She had no mutations. Cancer was in both lungs but contained to the chest. She's being treated at Sloan Kettering and had 6 rounds of Cisplatin/Alimta/Avastin and then went on maintenance therapy with Alimta and Avastin until Fall 2012.

Initial maintenance infusions were every 3 weeks but that was eventually lengthened to every 4 weeks with occasional breaks for vacations and holidays.Treatment got rid of everything with exception of one small lesion that showed minimally on PET scans (SUV of 1). She never went beyond first line/maintenance treatment.

In Fall 2012 her doctor decided to go for a cure so lesion was removed in January 2013 and lymph nodes and margins checked. Most recent scan was a couple of weeks ago and still shows NED. If next scan is clear they’ll remove her port.

We’re leaving on a trip to Italy and Paris next week. Don’t know why we’ve been so fortunate, but wanted to let you know that sometimes there are good outcomes.
