My husband took Xalkori for 37 months very successfully but then the tumors increased and we started Zykadia the day it was FDA approved. However he could not tolerate the Zykadia and he took himself to bed. He has had nothing for 5 months now. He has multiple bone mets. No one can tell me what his life expectancy can be without any medications. Can you predict life expectancy post Xalkori and Zykadia.

Hi irmabloch,

I'm sorry to hear of your husband's difficulties with Zykadia. Aside from possibly reducing the dosage, has consideration been given to either standard chemo or perhaps a new agent such as one of the immunotherapies currently being tested in clinical trials?

Length of survival without treatment depends on how quickly his cancer is progressing. If the pace of progression is rapid it could be a matter of weeks or months, but if not it could be longer.

I hope that the two of you can share a significant amount of quality time together.

It is my understanding that when stopping to take this medication there is a rebound effect and the tumors grow back very quickly. Have you heard this.

Hi Irma,

Although at times there can be a "flare" when a targeted therapy is stopped, it is by no means a given but rather an occasional phenomenon.
