My history:
Nov 14 – diagnosed with urothelial carcinoma, tumor removed from ureter, stage 4 because in 2 of 21 lymph nodes.
No need to remove ureter, kidney or bladder.
Jan-Apr 15 – did four rounds of cisplatin and gemzar.
Jun 15 – cystoscopy and cytology clear.
Jul 15 – CT scan of chest and abdomen clear.
Dec 15 – cystoscopy and cytology clear.
Jan 16 - CT scan of chest and abdomen clear.
Scheduled for next cystoscopy in May; CT scan in July.
I've been having a sharp pain in my forearm. It feels like it's in the bone, not muscular. It is not constant, it's sporadic, only a few times a week, and only for a couple of seconds. Also have pain in right buttocks, radiates a little bit down back of thigh. And occasional pain in left shin. Over the counter anti-inflammatory meds relieve all pains.
Could just be old age - I'm 60, but active, walk a few miles every day.
Imagination running wild, of course. Scared the cancer had metastasized into my bones.
My mother died of breast cancer in 1982. It wasn't discovered until it was in her spine.
My questions are:
Does cancer in the bone feel like I've described? And,
Should I ask my doctor for a full body scan of some type?
Thank you,
Marie

Hi Marie,
Hi Marie,
From here it doesn't sound particularly worrisome but you do need to keep your onc apprised of the new symptoms. The pain that runs from your butt to your thigh is from the sciatic nerve (Don't try to stretch it). I've had it on and off for about 20 years and yes I'm almost 60 and these things creep up on us all.
Bone pain from cancer is usually aggravated by activity and it becomes worse with time. If it's mostly going instead of coming you're probably good.
Let us know what the onc says.
All best,
Janine

Janine, thanks for the quick
Janine, thanks for the quick response. I've emailed my onc through the patient portal. Usually answers within a day or two. Will let you know what he says. Your response did make me feel better. Thanks again. And I'm glad to read your husband is doing well.

The other thing is that bone
The other thing is that bone cancer pain wouldn't likely come and go or be relieved by an OTC. The bone would get worse. Good that you're keeping your onc informed. Take care, Judy

Thanks Judy.
Thanks Judy.
This is the response I received from my oncologist:
For random pain as you are describing, an OTC medication would be fine. We would recommend seeing your PCP for any work up regarding random pains should it continue to bother you.
You are scheduled for CT of chest and CT urogram (abdomen/pelvis) in July. At this time we see no reason for a full body scan. Your chest/abdomen/pelvis have been negative so far.
You should contact Dr. Grubb (urologist) if you have any urinary/bladder type issues.
