Hello,  I am a 37 year old male.  I've been having right scapular pain along with pain in my right upper chest.  The pain wraps around my right rib axillary area as well.  This pain hurts my chest and scapular area as I rotate my head to the left and right as well.  This has been going on for 4 days now and it is constant. This has occurred out of the blue.  I am a non smoker, however, I am concerned as I consistently around a lot of smokers and I have been exposed to a lot of second hand smoke for the last 6 years.

Hi DJ,

Welcome to Grace.  I'm very sorry you're experiencing such pain.  To begin with, let me say no one can tell you what is or is not going on with you in an online forum.   But I can say it is extremely unlikely you've got a Pancoast tumor and likely you've got an orthopedic issue.  Unfortunately, Pancoast tumor comes up quite easily when googling for reasons why one has these upper body pains.  The fact of the matter is it's an unusual type of nsclc tumor that is typically seen in people much older than you with a significant smoking history.  For instance, my husband was diagnosed with a pancoast tumor and for a while his symptoms sounded a lot like my ongoing upper body problems caused by a disk issue.

It's probably a good idea to see a doctor sooner than later to mitigate lasting problems.

Take care,

Janine

I joined GRACE as a caregiver for my husband who had a Pancoast tumor, NSCLC stage III in 2009. He had curative chemo/rads then it was believed he had a recurrence in the spine/oligometastasis that was radiated. He's 10 years out from treatment.
