Here's what it says on the bottom of the thread:

The topic ‘Updating each other in a common thread to kick start the new GRACE?’ is closed to new replies.

Is there a way to open up this thread again...I know that it's a member favorite...Thanks.

I was concerned about how unwieldy this thread would become -- though it's nice to just have to check one spot! I am wondering what the new approach might look like and whether it might be be "member specific" (by name) vs the current "post title" approach. In any event, being able to check mark posts that one wants to follow is a great tool.

Any idea when personal message functionality might become available again or is that not going to be possible?

CS & BS (hehe),

I think we're getting pretty close here - likely several days, not several weeks, but I think everyone is focussing on the 5K Fun Run at the moment. :)

There will be a single "Survivor Stories & GRACE Member Status Updates" forum where members can post their updates, etc. You can simple put your name in the Topic title to easily identify your updates, then other members can subscribe as desired. This should be much cleaner that everyone posting in the same Topic. The same functionality is available now, there's just no dedicated place for these types of posts. Whether or not users will follow this or not, remains to be seen. ;)

We'll be working on testing a new plugin suite after the forum reorganization in the very near future, so it's still definitely a possibility. :)

Cheers,

Hi Mark and others, I just saw this conversation. I know I may sound biased here, having started the 'Updating each other thread', but I find it nice to have an ongoing conversation where we know about the current status of many GRACE members, without having to make too many clicks...

If GRACE starts a 'Status Updates' section and everyone starts a thread with their name in the Topic title it won't be like having all the info about each other in one place...

Just a thought,

Myriam

Hi Myriam,

The only problem with having all updates in a single Topic, are that after a while, the thread becomes dozens of pages long and then it's hard to keep up with anything anyway. It's also hard to scan through and find a specific user's updates once the thread becomes multiple pages.

The nice thing about having member updates in their own Topics is that when an update is posted, the Topic will show a the top of the Recent Activity or Topic Freshness lists.

I guess it's just a matter of style and members will end up using it however they prefer... we can try both. :)

Cheers,

-Mark

Yes, Thanks Mark. I think it's a good idea to have the 2 options, each is really helpful in its own right.

Updating on individual/personal threads make it more user friendly when accessing through our search function (or if you have explorer browser using regular google). Such as if you search for gemzar experience you would most likely come across some of my posts about Ds treatment; if I've reported in an individual/personal thread you'll easily find the part about gemzar as well as what happens around it, but if I post in the community thread my post would be difficult to find and spaced apart quite a bit.

On the other hand,

One continuous/community thread has a dynamic that couldn't be reproduced any other way. It lends itself to conversations that wouldn't otherwise happen. It creates understandings and relationships that are invaluable. I just hope if we get pm, members don't stop posting updates to the general population.

Anyway, thank you again Mark for giving us the ability to let it work itself out.

I'd like to endorse Janine's "on the other hand". It is nutty in a way to have such a long thread, but it does produce some great dialogues and juxtapositions. In addition, not everyone is going to want their own thread, and my worry is that some people might stay silent if there isn't a thread they can "pop in" on.

Thanks for what you are doing, Mark, and looking forward to these changes. It would be very useful to have a heads-up (hark at me, I'm becoming American!) on where the forum guidelines and instructions on how to create a forum signature are going to be.

Noted. :)

The Bugs/Support & Comments forums will be largely the same. We'll be adding a specific Q&A area for questions to the Doctors, and all the other subject areas will live in the main blog as well, so no switching to the other blogs to see those forums. It will actually be mostly self-explanatory, but we will of course help guide folks. :)

Cheers,
