Please refer to my signature for details.
My father's 3 cycles with taxotere ended on July 9 and after Scan on 13th July, progression was found.
His right hand fingers are not having enough control.
He cannot eat food or shave himself as he doesnt feel any control in his fingers.
How much time can this take to heal?
He is put on Erlotinib once a day starting July 20.

Welcome to Grace and thank you for asking these questions.

It's great that your dad had mutation testing with squamous and has the mutation. It is rare to find the combo and many oncologists don't test for that reason.

You're looking for information about peripheral neuropathy very possibly caused by taxotere and carbo. The info I've linked to below suggest that it will begin lessening soon after but can take longer and rarely last as an ongoing problem.

Gabapentin and Lyrica (I think these are both brand names) are drugs that have been found to be very helpful in neuropathy. On a personal note my husband has extensive nerve damage (not from neuropathy) and has good results from this group of drugs.

We have an extensive library of information that can be easily accessed with our search feature.

Please let us know of further questions you have.
I hope your father does very well on tarceva.

ilawise26, I wanted to add something as my diagnosis is similar to your father's. While neuropathy from chemo seems the most likely explanation, if I were in your position I would want to make sure that these symptoms were reported to your father's oncologist, just to be confident the one-sided numbness has nothing to do with the brain mets that were seen on dx. I am drawing on my own experience here - we have been told that I should report anything new or odd.
As Janine says, it is great that your father has the unusual combination of an EGFR mutation and a squamous tumor. I hope he gets on really well with the Tarceva. Best wishes.
