Had bronchitis for about a month or so leading up to my most recent CT. Was told by surgeon they found about 6 enlarged mediastinal lymph nodes R2 and R4.
I had stage 2 nsclc - adeno diagnosed in Dec 2013 with lobectomy of my lower right lobe. 3 nodes close to the tumour were positive but removed with the lobectomy. I had adjuvent chemo. Scan last August was all good.
I am hoping the enlarged nodes are due to the bronchitis/lung infection but it seems everything I read conflicts. Lots of sites say swelling from infections is usually above the clavical or in the armpits or groin. I would think that swelling of any node could be from an infection. That is my hope.
My question is would it be common or a very fairly reliable to assume that the mediatstinal nodes could be enlarged from the lung infection ... or would that be a long shot?
I have a biopsy on Tuesday so I guess I'll know more soon enough.
Thanks in advance for any advice or similar experience someone is willing to share.
Cheers,
Joanne

Hi Joanne,
Hi Joanne,
As Dr. West has said, "lymph nodes are designed/evolved to fight infection, not for cancer to spread to!" Since there are many causes for lymph nodes to become enlarged, it is entirely possible that this does not represent recurrence of your cancer, and I hope that's what your biopsy will show.
Good luck and best wishes,
