May is Brain Tumor Awareness Month.

Did you know that a brain tumor is an abnormal growth of cells in or near the brain, potentially originating in the brain itself (primary) or spreading from elsewhere in the body (secondary/metastatic)? Tumors can be benign or malignant, varying greatly in size and impact.

Symptoms may not always be immediately apparent, depending on the tumor's location. Treatment options like surgery and radiation therapy are tailored to each individual. Let's increase understanding and support for those affected.

Hi, Janine here. I'm on GRACE's Community Outreach Team.

APRIL is Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month.  I hate that any of us need to know anything about how to manage and live with a cancer diagnosis.  That's why it's good to have expert-mediated info on the subject. Our mission is to empower patients, caregivers, and health professionals to become direct partners in cancer care.

Check out our current playlist on Head and Neck Cancer

I hope you feel comfortable to come back and ask questions and share experiences.

Hello OutThere!  This is Janine, GRACE's Community Outreach Team member.  I've been a part of the Grace community since 2009, just before my husband was diagnosed with stage 3B nsclc.  Long story short, Don went through a lot and is here today living life.

I came across GRACE while looking for info about his symptoms and possible cancer diagnosis.  At that time, Dr. West and 2 other oncologists (he somehow rangled into helping each month) were writing articles for the site and answering every question on the forum.  As you can imagine, this was a busy place but also an unsustainable labor of love for busy oncologists and a growing internet.

I had no intention of even looking at a forum.  I just wanted information about Don's issues, and at the time this was the only place with that info.  Today most of our interactions take place on YT, FB, etc.

People still access the forums though normally stay in the shadows, which is perfectly fine.  I usually do too...in other forums, that is :).  Just know we always welcome comments, questions, experiences, or just share how today is going.

I'd love to hear from you.  Let us know how you found GRACE (no pun intended) and how you use it.  I'm so sorry you need to be here and hope you are taking care to live life and fight and love and hope.

Take care,

Janine

How Did You Find Cancer Info Online General Discussion! JanineT GRACE …

Hello!

One of our partners, Platforum Health/MedLive, is looking for an NSCLC patient from Florida to participate in a patient education initiative.  The person needs to have been seen at Moffitt if possible

Thanks,

Janine

Here is the information she sent us, "I'm reaching out as our team has a new opportunity for a patient to participate in an educational initiative. We recently developed an NSCLC CME and patient/caregiver educational initiative, specifically for providers and patients in Florida who may work at or may have been treated at Moffitt Cancer Center. This opportunity is for a patient with NSCLC who lives in/around Florida and may have been treated at Moffitt. Please find the specific ask for the patient below, including details about the time commitment and honoraria:

We'd like to ask you to participate in an interview to speak about your experience with NSCLC in addition to your reactions and insights to the patient education program entitled, "Understanding Risk of Lung Cancer and Taking Action: A Patient Social Campaign." I'm including a link to the program on our website for your reference here

We’d be looking for about 30-45 minutes to conduct the interview and we would meet with you over Zoom at a time that is convenient for you.

The questions you will be asked mainly to pertain to your experience with NSCLC, in addition to your overall thoughts to the social campaign that we will show you in real time during the interview. We will also compensate you with a $200 gift card for your time."
