We've covered the question of maintenance therapy for lung cancer in many posts over the past 5-6 years as it has evolved from a concept with little evidence to a standard of care, but it is difficult to get a good summary of the big picture. This presentation is my attempt to distill the field into the most important principles.
Drs. Nate Pennell, Mary Pinder, and Jack West review the results presented at ASCO 2013 from the POINTBREAK trial of maintenance therapy with the ECOG 4599 regimen vs. carboplatin/Alimta (pemetrexed)/Avastin (bevacizumab) followed by Alimta/Avastin maint.

The last portion of Dr. Leighl's program on "Highlights of Lung Cancer from 2012" covered maintenance therapy, specifically focusing on the latest report of results from the PARAMOUNT trial, which demonstrated a significant survival benefit for maintenance Alimta (pemetrexed) continued after four cycles of the first line combination of cisplatin and Alimta.
Dr. Phil Bonomi provides his views on the value of maintenance therapy for advanced non-small cell lung cancer and the various alternatives among maintenance therapies compared with a break from treatment.

One of the more eagerly awaited clinical trials in lung cancer this year is the PointBreak study that tried to identify whether an Alimta (pemetrexed)-based first line and maintenance chemo strategy is significantly superior to a well-established standard first line and maintenance therapy regimen. Specifically, this trial randomized 939 chemo-naive patients wi
The first of several podcasts we'll be adding here from our ASCO 2012 Lung Cancer Highlights program, co-sponsored with LUNGevity Foundation, is with Dr. Mark Socinski, Professor at the University of Pittsburgh, who discussed the updated results of continuation maintenance therapy with Alimta (pemetrexed) on the PARAMOUNT trial.
Last year, the PARAMOUNT trial was one of the highlight presentations in lung cancer from ASCO 2011, an important landmark study of continuation maintenance therapy with Alimta (pemetrexed).
The annual conference of the American Society of Clinical Oncology in late spring is the biggest event in the cancer world, where more of the big trials are presented than at any other time all year. In the lung cancer world, it’s looking like this one won’t be a blockbuster but will have some promising and interesting findings to dis
