Hello all, you know me and my cancer journey. I just had a follow-up CT scan and always get my own copy.
I understand that I would have pleura thickening due to radiation and surgery but this is the first time fluid has been mentioned. I talked with the onc nurse since my onc didn't mention it at our appt. and I didn't see the scan until I got home. She mentioned possible pneumonitis beginning. I don't agree with this since my radiation was over 4 years ago and was stereotactic. My surgery was 17 months ago and did involve the pleura. Does this seem like something to be concerned about? Thinking about discussing with my rad onc who I haven't seen since 2011. Any ideas or comments are welcome. Thank you as always. Take care, Judy

Hi Judy,
Hi Judy,
Dr. West has often said that an increase in pleural fluid is not a reliable indication of cancer progression. Fluid can develop from the irritation of tissues rubbing against each other, regardless of whether cancer is present. So although you will want to make inquiries of your medical team, I wouldn't assume progression.
Good luck getting some good and reassuring answers.

Hi Judy, I'm so sorry about the difficulties you're having not the least of which is the onc. Is there any way to look for another and stay close to home?

No Janine, this is the
No Janine, this is the largest hospital in our state and any onc is affiliated with it. I can always go back to Boston if things progress, but praying of course that doesn't happen.
Take care, Judy

I'm sure you know and do this
I'm sure you know and do this but do you have a nurse or nurse practitioner with whom you can discuss things. They sometimes act as go between with doctors to give a little push toward a better line of communication between doc and patient.
Wishing well,
Janine

Hi Judy, if fluid continues
Hi Judy, if fluid continues they may do a drain and test it. Are you on any treatment at present? Did they do the genetic testing at the time of Surgery? So nice to hear from you but sorry your having issues! Lorrie
