Dear Members , I am Shankar. My father is 72 years old , non-smoker , 78 kgs of weight and was diagnosed with stage 4 Lung Cancer- ADENOCARCINOMA RIGHT LUNG WITH RIB METASTASES GRADE 2.

He has complaints of pain over the left flank from July 2014. He was evaluated for the same with CT SCAN - chest dated on 30.08.2014 which showed well defined round soft tissue density lesion (5x5.6cm) with cavitation in basal region of right lower lobe. He was also evaluated with PET CT dated on 10.09.2014 which was reported to be 5.5x4 5 cm FDG avid lesion in posterior segment of right lower lobe (SUV -5.8) few subcentimeter right hilar lymphnodes (SUV 4.5). Increase FDG uptake in the lytic lesion in left 9th RIB. He took biopsy from the lung lesion which was consistent with adenocarcinoma.

He had been admitted in Cancer -Speciality Hospital dated on 23/08/2014 and took first-line treamnent - 1st cycle of chemotherapy with ALIMTA 900 mg ( in 100 ml of NS IV ) and CISPLATIN 120 mg ( in 500 ml of NS IV ) combo.

He has already completed 6th cycle of chemotherapy with ALIMTA &KEMOCARB ( Carboplatin) from 2nd cycle until 6th cycle chemo.

He took the CT SCAN chest with Contrast one day before of his 4th cycle of chemotherapy which CONFIRMED THAT TUMOR HAS SHRUNK FROM 5x5.6cm TO 5.1 x 3.8 x 3.2cm in posterolateral basal region of right lower lobe.

And, he took the CT SCAN chest one day before 6th cycle of chemotherapy (08/01/2015) which confirmed that TUMOR has INCREASED from 5.1x 3.8 x 3.2 cm to 6 x 4cm in posterolateral basal region of right lower lobe.

And he also took the latest CT SCAN chest on 31/01/2015 which confirmed that TUMAR has INCREASED again from 6 x 4cm to 6.7 x 4.5cm in posterolateral basal region of right lower lobe with spiculated border, abutting the diaphragmatic pleura. Multiple pleural tags noted.

* A tiny 2.5mm nodule seen lateral to the mass in right lower lobe-satellite nodule.
* Ill defined sclerosis seen in posterior as

Hello and welcome to Grace. I'm very sorry your father is having such problems. Lung cancer is an awful disease. Below are a couple of links that may help understand what's happening. We have an extensive library of excellent info on lung cancer, its treatment and care management. I hope you find it helpful.

This is a link that discusses 2nd line and beyond options for nsclc. http://cancergrace.org/lung/2010/10/04/lung-cancer-faq-2nd-line-nsclc-o…

This overview on molecular markers was written 4 years ago. While there are new mutations to check for the have treatments available the basic info is still worth reading. http://cancergrace.org/lung/2010/10/10/overview-of-molecular-markers-in…

This post mainly address 2nd opinions but it also discusses the usefulness of clinical trials and today there are promising options. http://cancergrace.org/cancer-101/2011/11/13/an-insider%E2%80%99s-guide…

All best,
