Liver ablation

Hi! I had a liver metastasis ablated in September of 2021. I had a chest ct scan without contrast in January. I had a chest ct on Tuesday with contrast and it stated ablated spot is similar in size but more conspicuous compared to January scan without contrast. Does this sound like a reoccurrence?

Hi Amber, Welcome to Grace.  I'm so sorry you're going through this scare.  It could be a recurrence.  It also is as likely to be the contrast creating a better view.  Too, there could be inflammation that isn't cancer.  This is a watch-and-wait situation that is usually very stressful.  Your oncologist will likely want another CT in 3 or 4 months, which is the shortest wait time to be able to see change using the same tech, CT with contrast.

On a personal note, my husband's 15-year cancer journey has been filled with scares like this.  Actually, last year he too had something show up on his liver that on closer inspection with a PET/CT also had a high SUV.  By the end of the year and 2 biopsies later, it and 2 other places were calmed down, so to speak, and he will probably be on a short leash with his onc for a while.

Again I'm sorry you're going through this and hope your worries are nothing.  Best of luck,

Janine

I joined GRACE as a caregiver for my husband who had a Pancoast tumor, NSCLC stage III in 2009. He had curative chemo/rads then it was believed he had a recurrence in the spine/oligometastasis that was radiated. He's 10 years out from treatment.
