Well, it looks like we might have finally found a cocktail which works. I started 3rd line in January, and have been on chemo every 3 weeks since then. 3rd line and 4th line didnt work, and we swapped off onto something else after 3 rounds of each.
I've now done 3 rounds of carbo and taxol, line 5, and this seems to be working reasonably well. Lungs are significantly better, liver is stable and bones seem improved..... although it looks like i might have fractured my hip (acetabulum).which I guess would explain the pain and mobility issues, at least to an extent.
Anyway, everyone is very happy iwth the results and I'm planning an overseas business trip after the next 3 rounds are finished!
I'm still feeling quite healthy, and apart from poor mobility, I'm doing very well.

That's terrific. Wow. I'm feeling shattered by my recent travel, but you're doing all this while on chemo and with a possible hip fracture. You're amazing, and/or I need to stop feeling sorry for myself.
Congratulations on feeling so well in most ways.

Fantastic news .As always you amaze and inspire in equal proportions I don't know how you do it.
I can't see our onc letting us have a third go at platinum chemo but we might try to persuade him when the time comes .Good luck with the trip

You blow my mind. To echo Dr. West, I'm going to try to stop feeling sorry for myself. What can they do about a fractured hip? They can't just let you continue to walk around like that, can they? Did you fall or are your bones that weak from everything you've been through? Your attitude is amazing.

thanks all... I dont feel particularly amazing, but I do realise that my journey is different to most people's. I'm very grateful that I have minimal side effects from chemo.
In terms of the hip, the onc's are discussing referring me to an orthopeadic surgeon. Depending upon location, it is possible to pin the bones together............ but to be honest, I'm really nervous about having surgery. I've managed to make it 45 years without a general anaesthetic, and I'd like that to continue. It also doesnt look like the fracture is in a position which would work for pinning. So, I think they just wait and see. the orthopod could also give advice on weight bearing.. i'm hoping i dont need to use crutches and hop. my balance is not great, and I already have problems with weak arms. I'm happy to continue weight bearing for the short amount of time that i currently do.
i didnt have a fall, so I assume its just become more brittle from the tumors and/or treatment.
