Dear Friends:

With an extremely heavy heart I am sad to report that DianaJ passed away from complications related to her lung cancer on January 31, 2012. I had not heard from Diana in a while (the last time she'd logged onto GRACE was January 27, 2012) and had PM'd her a few times without receiving a response back. Prior to this, Diana had given me permission to contact her son if I failed to hear from her after a few days. Yesterday, her son informed me that Diana had passed peacefully while surrounded by her loved ones. He also told me that Diana considered GRACE a lifeline and many of its members and faculty as friends.

I miss Diana very much. She was an incredibly supportive and caring individual. Despite everything that she had going on with her own health, she often held my hand in cyber space (with concerned and supportive PMs and e-mails) - - especially when things were shaky with my Mom. Diana was wonderful.

I hate lung cancer.

Oh no. I am terribly sorry. A lovely lady, and really concerned for others as you say. Thanks Laya for being the messenger. At least it was peaceful.

I happened to have visited Diana when I was visiting the area (as luck would have it, she lived in the same neighborhood near LA as a very close friend from medical school), as she has been a great advocate for GRACE and someone who has enriched our forums and the community here. I'm heading back down there and thought that I haven't seen or heard from her in a while... which lead me to fear that this was for good reason.

I was happy to have known her; my heartfelt condolences to her family.

I am having a bit of a difficult time uploading Diana's picture in a post here (her wonderful son gave me permission to do so). It's a jpg and when I click the images tab here and try to insert it, it looks like it's going to do it, and then a message pops up that its an unsupported format. Hmmmmm. . .Any help in this regard would be appreciated.

Thank you for posting the picture, Dr. West.

Diana's son told me that this photo was taken in 1999 when they visited the Grand Canyon. Diana really enjoyed herself on the trip, and recently had told her son that she wanted to visit the Grand Canyon again.

She is missed. . .

Laya, I've been chasing this post around so that I could reply and I'm finally here. I was so saddened to read of Diana's passing. She will be truly missed. My sincere condolences to her family and thanking them for letting us share this beautiful picture to remember her by.
Take care, Judy
