Hello consultant,
I will start Radiotherapy to relieve my recent increase in bone pain . I am an advanced breast cancer patient under the treatment of Lapatinib 1250 mg and Letrozole 2.5 mg daily. May I ask whether I need to stop Lapatinib during the course of RT treatment. With many thanks for your expertise comment

Hello tong, I hope your radiation therapy relieves the pain permanently.

There's a trial testing palliative radiation with concurrent Lapatinb for better efficacy of treating metastases. I don't see any safety component which makes me think it's not in question. But we aren't going to trust my deductions, they're often way off. http://clinicaltrials.gov/show/NCT01427322
I will ask a doctor to comment on your question.

All best,
Janine

Dear Janine,
Thank you again.
I meant do I need to stop Lapatinib temporaily during the time I undergo RT only as I will resume it once after RT ( last for three weeks) stop.

Teresa

Teresa,
I see what you want to know and only posted the trial because of the similarities in the questions.
Our onc breast cancer specialist suggested I ask our radiation onc. Unfortunately we only have one of each of these doctors on our faculty so it's taking more time than usual. Have you spoken to your radiation oncologist about this. There are some medications that have to be stopped during radiation however most any cancer drug combined with radiation will enhance the side effects of both. Some drugs are so new that they haven't been tested concurrently with radiation treatment to have data from which to draw conclusions. It isn't unusual to need to stop treatment for the time on and maybe a week around radiation.
