Mom to start Tarceva; will liver recover - 1256879

Mom has 20 plus mets to her liver; body very compromised from months on Decadron; When (hopefully) tarceva starts working, will her liver be able to recover from the attack on it? I'm assuming there is a chance, since the doctor is on board, but not know much about what happens when the tumors attack the liver, not sure what to expect from a relief standpoint. Anyone with liver mets successfully reduced on tarceva who could give me some ideas/guidance? many thanks;

Honestly, I'd have to say that every case is unique enough that I think you're not likely to be able to learn anything from someone else's experience.

If the liver damage is from the metastases directly, I think there's good reason to be hopeful that the liver will recover function well if the cancer responds -- and as I mentioned in another thread, the probability of response is quite favorable when someone with an EGFR mutation receives an EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor like Tarceva (erlotinib). If the liver damage is from something else, it's harder to know what to expect. We often just have to treat and then see how someone responds...

Good luck.
