Hi, I'm sorry your wife is so sick.
I did a search on clinicaltrials.org and found 3 trials that matched "PD-L1, PD 1, breast cancer", http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/results?term=PD-l1%2C+pd+1%2C+breast+canc…
The info on clinicaltrials isn't always up to date but close enough to know that these immunotherapies are being studied in breast cancer and may be an appropriate option for your wife. These drugs haven't been approved for use but still being researched i.e., no one can say with any kind of certainty your wife would have a good chance of benefiting from them. They are still showing promise in trials, at least for the type of cancer my husband has and I'd twice about driving the 2 hours to get to it if the need arises.
All best,
Janine
I will ask our breast cancer specialist to comment.

Upregulation of PD-L1 may allow cancers to evade the host immune system and therefore targeting this molecule could theoretically help the immune system better fight cancer. However these drugs are still in the experimental phase. In general, improving the immune system to fight cancer has been most successful in melanoma but the strategy is also being studied in other cancers
