My 53 year old husband dx with sclc ltd in April 12. Did 6 rounds of cicplatin/etopaside along with 30 radiation treatments to lung. The final scan done after treatment showed NED. 24 hours later we were in ED and diagnosed with mets to spine and pelvis. 2 treatments taxol then 10 treatments of radiation to back. Scans showed progression in bones but no cancer anywhere else. Antoher 2 taxol treatments followed by scan. Met in pelvis same however spinal met shows progression. They now have him on Irontecan. Have you seen benefit with this med?
Thank you,
Ellen

Reply To: QUESTION ON IRONTECAN
I think it's about as strong a choice as any in this setting, though topotecan is its cousin that is better studied as a treatment for relapsed SCLC. The problem is that relapsed SCLC is often refractory to our treatments, so while either of these is a fine choice, we don't tend to see nearly as many good results as we'd hope to in this setting, especially in patients who have progressed rapidly on or just after prior treatments.
Good luck.
