Hello I am writing because my sister is 27 and was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkins lymphoma went through chemo and after about 6 months after chemo and all tests came out ok she continued to feel very ill. Most recently past two months doctors told her she was fine did not perform any more tests. She still has her port. Recently she was complaining so much about discomfort tight feeling in the neck swollen. So they finally decided to do another PET scan today results just came in and this is what it said:

increase activity in the soft tissues posterior to the nasopharynx with an suv of 11.4........could be inflammation or lymphoma.

So doctor almost sent her home until he reviewed the results and then told her that she needed to stay to see an ENT doctor. I dont understand anything and she understands even less no one really explained anything. Can anyone provide some kind of information I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

Hi gisellem, I'm very sorry your sister is having these very worrying events. Unfortunately we don't have faculty who specialize in cancer of the blood like lymphoma. It's possible the ENT will do a biopsy procedure to find out whether or not the nodule is malignant or not. Or the ENT may do workup on whether an infection is possibly the problem.

I would ask why the port is still in if she is no longer going to receive chemo. They can cause infections and need to be flushed to clean on the regular basis.

I hope your sister's problems are solved quickly.
