Dr. Jack West is a medical oncologist and thoracic oncology specialist who is the Founder and previously served as President & CEO, currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Global Resource for Advancing Cancer Education (GRACE)
Dr. West received an M. Phil. in Experimental Biology from Cambridge University on a Fulbright Scholarship before returning to the US to undertake his medical training at Harvard Medical School in Boston, where he earned his MD magna cum laude and conducted research as a Howard Hughes Medical Student Fellow. He stayed in Boston for his internship and residency in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, then moved to Seattle, Washington for his fellowship in medical oncology at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center/University of Washington. He joined Swedish Cancer Institute in Seattle in late 2002, where he directed the medical oncology component of the thoracic oncology program. He moved to City of Hope in 2019 to serve as an Associate Professor and build remote consult services for cancer patients around the world. In 2023, he transitioned to work as the Vice President of Clinical Development at Summit Therapeutics, where he focuses on efforts to advance novel treatments for lung cancer and other oncology settings to improve patient outcomes.
Dr. West maintains a strong clinical research focus on lung cancer and has authored dozens of peer-reviewed as well as invited publications. Over the past couple of decades, he has served as Web Editor for JAMA Oncology and a section editor and author for the lung cancer section of UpToDate while also developing a wide range of novel educational content across many platforms for other physicians, patients, and caregivers.
