I know how the media can be and just want clarification on this. Thanks!

I would be reluctant to take anything printed in that website - NY Post (?) - at face value. It seems that NY Times fills a role for news, and NY Post may fill a role for non-news.

We all agree that healthcare needs changes to remain sustainable. My understanding is that organizations like ASCO and NCCN want to get doctors more involved in leading healthcare reform, with patient interests as their top priority. I don't think they are trying to 'sell-out' to insurance companies. They seem to provide organized, cohesive guidelines that prevent insurance companies from completely dictating care.

My opinion: I would say that the term "death panel" is a signal that the source is not credible and is primarily geared toward creating a visceral response and manipulating public sentiment rather than having a thoughtful discussion of a complex issue.

They said this was mentioned at this year's ASCO conference, but I couldn't find anything on it. I saw it as media hype as well. When they said ACA had a death panel (Palin's words), it was asking doctors and hospitals to talk with people about Advanced Directives and End of Life care, which by the way everyone should as we never know what tomorrow will bring.
