My mom was diagnosed Phase IV Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer with EGFR exon 21-L858R mutation, she had taken Iressa for 8 months and acquired resistance 3 weeks ago based on the CT scanning result, a new gene testing last week showed negative T790M mutation.
My mom also has Essential Tremor for over 30 years and takes Levodopa and Benserazide Hydrochloride, Sifrol and benzhexol dihy each day.
My questions are: <1>Is there any conflict between the above ET drugs and Iressa, which might decreased the effectiveness of Iressa? <2> Is AZD9291 effective for T790M negative patients? Can she participate in AZD9291 trial or take AZD9291 after it is available on market? Or chemotherapy is the only following treatment choice for her? <3> In clinical, how do you control and alleviate severe cough caused by the tumor
progression?
Any suggestion or information is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Hong

Hi Hong, I hope your mom is
Hi Hong, I hope your mom is feeling alright.
Following is a good description of how cough is managed including when it's not possible to stop the cause.
At the moment AZD9291 is being tested on people only with T790M mutation. Most often researchers do there on mutation testing on the T790M mutation. But if it is only effective against this mutation you mom would need to have it and health care isn't likely to pay for something not likely to be helpful.
There aren't any studies to show conflict between the drugs though there's been no testing to ask the question.
Know that many people to well on chemo and there is a lot of promise with immunotherapies which are still in trials.
All best,
Janine
