After reading Dr. West's article on over treating NSCLC, I wondered if the area of a 1.6 nodule that is close to blood vessels changes the theory and should come out because of the closness to these blood vessels even if a lobectomy has to be done.Thank you

That would really be something to be decided on an individualized basis. It's true that if a vital anatomical structure is threatened, that may require an intervention. Your local doctors can best judge the risk posed by the nodule, taking into account factors such as its specific location and apparent rate of growth.
If surgery is considered, it would be best to consult with an experienced thoracic surgeon, rather than one who performs a wider variety of surgical procedures. Some of the best can be found at teaching/research hospitals.

Hi All and thank you so much for the support received through a scary time. I saw my thoracic sugeon today who said their was no uptake on the Petscan for the 1.6 nodule. He said that I can wait until April to have another scan. I am so relieved. I had scanxiety so bad this time. I guess after 5 years of good sailing I was shocked that this was new and that it would be a lobe of my lung and not a wedge. He reassured me about the ins and outs of the surgery if I have to be operated on. It is so wonderful to have people, all of you, to be there for me when i need it so badly. My husband's first wife died of lung cancer so I really don't like to freak him out saying too much. He took care of her at home as per her wishes so you can imagine why I don't like to lean on him. Wishing you all luck in each of your journey and keeping all of the lung cancer community in my prayers.

No PET uptake is terrific news! Congratulations on the encouraging report. We all understand scanxiety, having experienced it many times, so we know it's impossible to tell someone not to worry. But I hope that you can relax for a while, because your scan result is very good news.
