I am a 66 y/o male diagnosed in 1/2011. After a 1/2017 CT scan showed significant growth in my Splenic node (treated with Rituximab Therapy 1/2014 and 4/2016) we are planning a PET scan on 2/14/2017. I recently realized that my treatment for an incisional infection (removal of in situ Melanoma) was immediately preceding my CT. My question: Is it possible that the growth seen on my CT scan could be from the infection vs. actual cancer growth and if the PET results could also possibly be skewed?

Hi and welcome to Grace. I'm sorry you're going through all this worry. It is absolutely possible that the scan is picking up activity in the lymph node from a recent infection. I can only imagine the worry this causes. Perhaps in the future avoid scans such as CT and PET within a month or so of an infection or other inflammatory process. It can lower a lot of stress.

I hope this is just the lymph system in the process of doing it's job.
