First post and recently joined Grace. Located in Ontario, Canada. I am the caregiver for my wife. She is 54 and on Jan 15th 2017 she collapsed at home after suffering some back pain. Rushed to the hospital after she couldn’t move her legs. X-rays and a MRI revealed lung cancer on her right side and a tumor on her spine. Tumor removed and rods inserted in her spine. As a result she is paralyzed from T3 down. Still has feelings in her lower limbs, just no movement. With a diagnosis of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) Adenocarcinoma at an advanced stage and given less than a year. We did 10 sessions of radiation but Chemo has been removed from the list of options due to the paralysis. Several scans later the results show a growth on the Lymph node and some more bone tumors. So again the idea of radiation came up but they said it would only be a “band-aid” solution. I have found very little on lung cancer with a tumor on the spine causing paralysis to see any hope of gaining any extra time with treatments. Plus her right hand is affected by the growth in her right shoulder that mobility in her wheelchair is limited. Now we are using a pain pump with Hydromorphone that seems to helping with the pain in the legs and lower back. (There is talk she may have another compound fracture in her lower spine, she is reluctant to go for x-rays and another MRI at this time) I am wondering if there are other stories with similar conditions out there? We deal with every day as a gift and continue to deal with all the issues we have. With several great PSW’s and nurses coming to the house we seem to be dealing with the issues at home. At the six month mark now and hoping for the best. Thanks.
