The GRACE Forums

While given the opportunity to share some of my favorite discussions I came upon the article (ok not a forum discussion, I'll get to those) that has stayed with me through the years. Dr. Harman was a contributor to the forums and articles. This article talks about palliative care, quality of life care for people in treatment whether curative or not. It's a relatively new specialty that focuses on the whole person and their loved ones while in treatment.

In keeping with the quality of life theme, this forum post entitled A Little Sunday Humor is self-explanatory.  Humor is good medicine. What do you think?

Another favorite article, it too is about quality of life.

"Every cancer therapy has two purposes: to improve duration of life, and to improve quality of life. Every other measure of treatment success, such as response rate or progression-free-survival, is a surrogate to these two true goals. I am using the broken record as my pseudo-apology for repeating this mantra repeatedly on GRACE, to my colleagues, and in my mind every time I make a treatment decision."

Above is a quote from 'Chemotherapy Selection for 1st line Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) — The Importance of Getting it Right the First Time' by Dr. Weiss.  The quote is the first sentence and one of the most important aspects of treatment planning for people with advanced cancer. The article is partially out of date due to new treatment options but there are a plethora of helpful tips for anyone with advanced cancer.  For many of the messages given in this article, you can substitute Chemotherapy with tki or immunotherapy or even clinical trial for that matter. We can always get up to date info to fill in the dated specifics.

Too, there's a bit of history plus some of the arguments in carboplatin vs cisplatin.  You will always find more than meets the eye in these articles.
