6 mm ground glass nodule

Hello all! I am new to this forum, and although I have not been diagnosed with cancer, I did discover on a relatively recent CT scan that I have a 6mm lingular ground glass nodule. The CT scan (which I had done in December of 2021) was of my abdomen and pelvis to check for diverticulitis (which was negative), however, the ground glass nodule was incidentally found. I had had a prior CT scan of my abdomen and pelvis for suspected kidney stones almost two years prior, and no mention whatsoever was made of the ground glass nodule. However, the more recent 2021 scan made note of it and said it was stable when compared to the 2019 scan. I happened to revisit the report and googled ground glass nodules (my PCP had not mentioned it or suggested follow up) and saw all of the information pertaining to those types of nodules being more likely to turn malignant, etc. I suffer from health anxiety so of course, that threw me for a loop! I presume the fact that it is stable for the past two years is good (I have no idea how long it may have been there prior to 2019), but I am still very worried now. I was able to make an appointment with a pulmonologist in four days, but is there any experience or information which anyone can offer that can calm my anxiety a bit in the interim? Thank you so very much!

Hi Missy and welcome to Grace. I'm sorry you're going through this worry. As you have already heard a 6mm ggo that doesn't change isn't uncommon. Your pulmonologist may want to repeat scans every year or so but anything invasive is probably more dangerous than beneficial. Your doc will be able to discuss your specific case.
I hope you are feeling more secure in your health and care after your appointment.

I joined GRACE as a caregiver for my husband who had a Pancoast tumor, NSCLC stage III in 2009. He had curative chemo/rads then it was believed he had a recurrence in the spine/oligometastasis that was radiated. He's 10 years out from treatment.
