Has anyone heard of using Nioxin hair products to prevent hair loss from chemo. The oncologist nurse told me that a patient she had swore by it, and she did not lose her hair (the chemo drug she was on should have made all her hair fall out).
Nioxin is for thinning hair. I'm just wondering if it safe to you during chemo. Must have different ingredients and medication than regular shampoo.....

I haven't heard of it, but I'll be interested to learn if anyone responds with either a confirmation or a report that it isn't effective. What I've heard about are "cold caps" that chill the scalp during chemo in order to constrict blood vessels there during chemo infusion and keep the scalp from being exposed to more than a minimal amount of chemotherapy. They aren't commonly used, but I've heard that they can be effective.

My husband uses Nioxin and swears by it. This is general usage, though, not chemo related. He does really think that it has saved his thinning hair. And I do agree that he - though graying - has a pretty good tuft up there still. Again though - it is general usage, but I would think that it might be worth a try. I wouldn't worry too much about possible different chemicals in the shampoo - I don't think it could be that much worse than anything else. :)
