Mitosis is the process of one cell dividing to make 2 identical replicas of itself. It happens in humans normally to replace damaged cells or for growth. Sometimes a cell divides through mitosis uncontrollably and forms a tumor. To have a tumor is to have mitosis go wrong and produce more cells than is needed.
Your grandmother's tumor may be cancerous or benign, that depends on whether the tumor is invading normal tissue.
