In February 2013 one nodual was seen on an x-ray when I had my gastric sleeve done. No mention of the size was given to me, but from what I saw on the x-ray myself it looked to be approximately the size if a quarter.
Fast forward to last month July 6, 2017 there are now 6 visible noduals. I have not seen the CT scan, done on my back after a fall, and no sizes were given to me when my doctor told me in passing about them. Maybe I should have prefaced this with I had breast cancer in 1987. I have shortness of breath, extreme fatigue, it hurts my chest to take a deep breath, but my O2 sat. Is still in the mid to upper 90s.
My PCP doesn't think I should worry, because he never saw the chest x-ray from 2013 so he is discounting it. Do I have a legitimate reason to be concerned and insist on further testing? I am scheduled to be seen by a pulmanologist on Aug. 10th.

Hi reecee1978,
Hi reecee1978,
Welcome to Grace. I hope you'll not find a reason to need be a regular around here.
It's not real helpful to compare x ray to CT scans. A CT scan reveals much more than an x ray so it's possible all the nodules were there in 2013. If the nodules are each under a cm it's typical to take another scan in around 6 months to make sure they aren't growing. Over a cm is on the large size for a benign nodule so your pcp might want to scan earlier, such as in 3 months. It's most probable the nodules don't represent cancer. Instead they could be infection, inflammation, or a benign nodule that doesn't grow or cause symptoms.
I hope this helps put things into perspective for your appointment on the 10th.
All best,
Janine

Since you're seeing a pulmonologist next week, they should review the CT scan with you. Ask for sizes and write down any other questions you may have. Here's to it not being cancer!
Take care, Judy
